Early Childhood Development and Lifelong Learning
In Timor-Leste:
Only 20% of preschool-aged children attend school.
Nearly 37% of rural youth (aged 15-24) are illiterate, compared to 6% in urban areas.
A staggering 70% of grade one students do not meet basic learning goals.
While Timor-Leste has made commendable progress since gaining independence in 2002, significant challenges remain. These include ageing educational facilities, high rates of grade repetition, linguistic diversity, and underdeveloped rural infrastructure. These issues are further exacerbated by the fact that nearly 42% of the population lives in poverty.
Join us as we delve into Early Childhood Development and Lifelong Learning in Timor-Leste. Together, we'll explore the progress made, the obstacles faced, and the ongoing efforts to ensure a brighter future for the nation's youth.
