The Second Voluntary National Review of SDG Implementation Progress, 2023 (Timor-Leste VNR-2)
After 21 years of independence, Timor-Leste is committed to achieving sustainable development and ensuring that no one is left behind. The second Voluntary National Review (VNR) assesses the country's progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aims to fulfill the aspirations of its young citizens. Despite facing multiple shocks, including COVID-19, natural disasters, and political challenges, Timor-Leste has shown resilience through timely responses and recovery policies. The government's Economic Recovery Plan has safeguarded living standards, maintained jobs, and supported businesses. However, there are still challenges in education, health, social protection, and economic diversification. Timor-Leste is seeking partnerships to accelerate technology-driven transformation and promote a 'blue-green economy' focusing on agriculture, fisheries, and tourism. With ongoing reforms, the country remains committed to democracy and social cohesion, addressing governance challenges. Timor-Leste is determined to strengthen institutions, avoid future political impasses, and collaborate with partners to deliver for its people.
