Dear UN Colleagues,
Distinguished guests, ladies, and gentlemen,
It is indeed a great pleasure to join you today to participate in the opening ceremony of the training programme and also to highlight the United Nations' commitment to strengthening systems, providing policy advice, and technical assistance in support of Timor-Leste's journey towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Today, we gather to commemorate the opening ceremony of a training programme for the prosecution and law enforcement agencies of Timor-Leste, which not only reflects our shared dedication to capacity building but also emphasizes the significance of international partnerships and cooperation.
I would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Korean National Police University for their expertise and commitment in delivering this training. I would also like to extend our thanks to the Republic of Korea for their generous funding and continuous support in implementing the "Together for Equality" programme that aims to prevent and respond to gender-based violence in Timor-Leste through the empowerment and strengthening of law enforcement agencies.
The training programme we are inaugurating today stands as a vital component of our collective efforts to enhance the capacity of Timorese law enforcement agencies and promote the principles of equality, justice, and the rule of law.
The demand for this training emerged from the collaborative efforts of the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL) and the Scientific Criminal Investigation Police (PCIC), signifying their commitment to improving their capabilities in addressing cybercrime. Recognizing the need for specialized training in cybercrime investigation, PNTL and PCIC eagerly embraced this opportunity, acknowledging its potential to strengthen their ability to combat cyber-related offences.
I would also like to express our thanks to the National Institute of Public Administration – INAP – for providing the venue for this training. INAP's unwavering commitment to the capacity-building process of Timorese institutions aligns with our mandate, and we are always delighted to collaborate with them.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Lastly, I wish to reiterate the United Nations unwavering commitment to supporting and facilitating initiatives that enhance the capacity and cooperation between law enforcement agencies in Timor-Leste. Through collaborative efforts, we can pave the way for a more competent and effective law enforcement system, one that upholds the principles of equality, justice, and the rule of law.
Thank you all for your presence and contributions.
Together, let us continue our journey towards a more just and secure Timor-Leste!
Thank you.
